SUMMIT FASCIAS & SOFFITS

Summit cellular PVC-u profiles are a range of roofline products manufactured to the highest industry standards. The significant technical details are outlined below.

  • Summit Fascias and SoffitsComposition – Summit cellular PVCu profiles are manufactured by the inward foaming process of extruding and expanding PVCu with a co-extruded rigid PVC skin over the cellular core resulting in an improved surface finish and superior impact resistance.

  • Discolouration – Summit white cellular profiles are Lead Free. They will not suffer from pinking or discolouration.

  • Fire – Summit cellular plastics have been tested to BS.476 Part 7: 1987 and have gained a Class 1 fire rating.

  • Thermal Movement – The co-efficient of linear expansion under test conditions for Summit profiles is 5 x 10-5 per degree C. Thermal movement of Summit profiles is largely absorbed within the material and fixing system. An expansion gap of 4mm is recommended at each junction or corner (i.e. 8mm between boards). Fixing should not take place below 0ºC or above 30ºC. Cellular profiles should not be installed where the temperatures are likely to exceed 50ºC.

  • Impact – Summit profiles have been tested for impact in accordance with BS 7619: 1993 and exceded the minimum standard.

  • Insulation – Summit cellular PVC-u profiles have a thermal conductivity value of 0.04W/Mk, which is superior to wood, concrete and plasterboard

  • Durability – Summit cellular PVC-u profiles have been independently tested by the British Board of Agrement (BBA) and are judged to retain their decorative qualities for a period of 20 years with only minor changes in surface appearance and impact strength.

  • Ventilation – Summit profiles conform with the recommendations of the 1989 edition of BS.5250 and with the current Building Regulations 1994 (England and Wales) as amended, and the Building Standards 1990 (Scotland) as amended, as well as the Building Regulations 1994 (Northern Ireland) as amended.

  • Fixing Recommendations – Summit 20mm Sumo and the S16 replacement fascias means they do not require a supporting backboard. Minimum fixing should be with 2 x 65mm stainless steel annular ring-shank nails with white plastic heads or capped screws into rafter feet at centres not exceeding 600mm. Fix Summit 9mm cover boards with 2 x 50mm stainless steel annular ring-shank nails into sound support timber at centres not exceeding 600mm. Unsound or insecure backings should be replaced before installation of overcapping boards.

Overcapping profiles can be used for new-build installations, however, a backing board of not less than 12mm marine plywood must be provided. Summit 9mm soffit boards should be fixed using 40mm stainless steel annular ring-shank nails at centres not exceeding 600mm along the length and 200mm across the width. Cladding should be fixed with 33mm x 2mm stainless steel annular ring-shank nails using the fixing groove provided.

  • Environmental Information – Summit PVC-u profiles DO NOT contain CFC's nor are CFC's produced in the extrusion process. Summit PVC-u profiles are used to replace timber products and as such preserve natural resources. Summit PVC-u profiles have a very long lifespan at the end of which they are fully recyclable. They therefore represent a responsible use of finite resources. Summit cellular PVC formulations DO NOT contain lead. Summit profiles are not bio-degradable.

Summit Offcuts can be safely disposed of in landfill sites or by modern incineration with adequate filtration. Further general information concerning the environmental credentials of PVC can be obtained from the British Plastics Federation (BPF).

  • Colour Stability – Summit profiles demonstrate excellent performance in ACT and Suntests which are used to predict discolouration: ACT2: Delta Pl <15. Suntest: Does not reach Delta L* of –2 after 500 hours.

  • Product Range – All Summit profiles are supplied in 5m lengths as standard. Summit profiles are available in Standard White (W), Mahogany (M), Light Oak (C) , Black (Z) and Rosewood (R). Foiled finishes are available on selected products. Where practical Summit profiles are supplied with a lo-tac protective film applied to the outer surface. This should be removed following installation.

  • Quality Assurance – Summit cellular PVC-u profiles are designed and manufactured to stringent quality control standards in accordance with ISO9001. Summit cellular profiles have been tested and achieve the requirements stipulated for cellular PVC-u in BS7619 which encompasses composition , weather resistance, colour fastness, surface finish, impact and fire performance.

Details of profile scope are available upon request. All information is given in good faith. However due to the policy of constant improvement product specification, descriptions and technical details are subject to change without notice.
